Karen A. Niedzwiecki Tricka-Plasky, 64, of Plainville, CT., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General. She was the loving wife of Alan Plasky. Karen was born on February 27, 1951 in New Britain, CT., where she lived most of her life before moving to Plainville, CT. She graduated from MIA in 1969 and E.C. Goodwin Tech nursing program in 1992. Karen previously worked at Capitol Lunch and the Jerome Home in New Britain, UCONN Health Center in Farmington and the Department of Corrections in Hartford from which she retired. She was an avid reader participating in the Plainville Book Club. Karen loved cooking, birdwatching, crocheting, shopping and spoiling her most treasured grandchildren. Anyone who knew Karen knew she was an independent spirit with a big personality. She lived her life with tenacity and gusto. Karen was devoted, generous and loving to her family and friends.
Karen is survived by her mother Leocadia Niedzwiecki, loving daughters April Palombizio and husband Larry of New Britain, CT., Paula Tricka and husband Mark Furrow of Wethersfield, CT. Her step-children Jeffrey Plasky of Manchester, CT and Amanda Plasky of Vernon, CT., her oldest brother John Niedzwiecki of Newington, CT., her sister and best friend Christine O’Brien and husband John O’Brien of Kensington, CT., her baby brother David Niedzwiecki and wife Wendy of Bristol, CT., her grandchildren in which she adored Austin Raymond-Tricka, Ashley, Katherine and Rosario Palombizio, as well as several nieces and nephews and her ex-husband Joseph Tricka. Karen was predeceased by her sister Annette Niedzwiecki and father, Frank Niedzwiecki.
Funeral rites for Karen will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. with the procession departing at 10:30 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT., followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Ave., New Britain. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Monday from 4 – 8 p.m. Directions to funeral home I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd), right off exit – one mile down on right.
