Judith Comstock Orlando, 74, of Mt. Vernon, Rd., Southington, CT died surrounded by family and friends on February 4, 2016 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General Campus.
Judy is survived by her children, Richard Orlando and his wife, Linnea, of Terryville, CT, Thomas Orlando of Southington, CT and Michelle Kenyon of Waterford, CT; her brothers Richard Comstock and his wife, Heidi of Lisbon, NH and Donald Comstock and his wife Barbara of Wallingford, CT; her eight grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; and her longtime friend, Lori Koritkowski. She is preceded in death by her sister, Susan Dubois; a niece and nephew, Kim and Dean Lattman; and her parents, Raymond and Marion Comstock.
Judy was born on May 5, 1941 in Providence, RI. She attended Orville H. Platt High School in Meriden, CT and obtained her degree as a Registered Nurse from Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing in New London, CT. During her long nursing career, Judy held positions at various hospitals, doctor offices and care facilities, implemented a nurses’ aide training program at Ernest B. Kuhn Training Center and worked as a nurse at Connecticut Valley Hospital, Whiting Forensic Institute and Cheshire Correctional Center. Judy also enjoyed volunteering in the community; she founded the Central Connecticut Stroke Club and volunteered at First Baptist Church of Southington and enjoyed knitting prayer shawls to help provide comfort to others. She is remembered by relatives and friends as a loving person who enjoyed giving of herself to others.
Her family is grateful to the staff The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain General Campus, especially the ICU and Palliative Care floor. Their expertise and compassionate care is much appreciated.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27 at First Baptist Church of Southington, 581 Meriden Ave., Southington, with a reception to follow at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy’s life.
