Obituary for Ira Lockhart, Jr.

Ira Lockhart, Jr., 80, of Plainville, CT., passed away after a long period of illness Saturday, April 16, 2016, at The Reservoir in West Hartford, CT. He was surrounded by his loving wife (Louise) of 56 years. Ira was born on September 17, 1935, in Reynolds, GA. He was an employee of Fafnir Bearing Company for thirty seven years and later employed as a school bus driver at Dattco. Mr. Lockhart served his country honorably in the U.S. Marines. Ira was a long-time member of Redeemer’s A.M.E. Zion Church in Plainville, CT where he served his church faithfully.
Ira leaves his wife (Louise Smith Lockhart), children (Rev. Diane Taylor, Ira Lockhart III and Karen Louise Lockhart), grandchildren (Kyrin Anthony Trotman, Alexandria Marie Lockhart, Eli Lockhart, Sydney Ira Lockhart and Hadley Louise Lockhart), his sister and brother-in law (Dolly and Andrew Jackson) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing Celebration for Ira will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Redeemers A.M.E. Zion Church, 110 Whiting St., Plainville, CT. with the Rev. Dr. Valerie A. Maness, Pastor, presiding. Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans Spousal Section in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. The American flag will be presented to Ira’s wife, Louise. Relatives and friends may call at Redeemer’s A.M.E. Zion Church, Friday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Service of comfort provided by the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT.
