Laura Thereault, of New Britain, CT.a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on the 17th of April after a long fought battle against cancer. She will be missed but her lifelong impacts will forever live in the minds of her Friends and Family. Laura dedicated her life to helping others. Laura, the daughter of Patrick and Joan Gionfriddo, lived in New Britain CT all her life. She graduated from St Thomas Aquinas High School and received her Bachelors degree in psychology at Central Connecticut State University. After Laura joined Cedarcrest Hospital in 1981 she received and utilized her RN degree to help others. She spent the next few decades developing long lasting friendships that will be cherished for years to come. She later retired in 2009. Laura’s greatest accomplishment was to see her grandchildren. They brought her such joy and happiness that no obstacle could stand in her way to be with them.
Her loving husband, Gil Thereault, her brother and sister, Joseph Gionfriddo and Linda Bagley, and cousin, Janet Jendrzejczyk survives Laura. She leaves behind her son, Jonathan Therrien, daughter-in-law, Brynn Therrien, and beloved Grandchildren Preston and Kale, her nieces Nicole, Amanda, Ashley, and Abby for whom she loved dearly. Laura also leaves a strong group of friends that will forever be a part of her legacy. A special bond between Joe Shemansky and Laura was even stronger in her last days as she was comforted and loved through her passage to eternal life.
A Celebration of Laura’s life will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2 p.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Saturday from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. Directions to funeral home - I-84 east or west - exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit - one mile down on right. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
