Obituary for Bertha E. Jones

Bertha Jones, 68 of New Britain, CT., departed this life Saturday, April 23, 2016 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut @ New Britain General. Bertha was born April 2, 1948 in Waterbury, CT., and lived in New Britain for 48 years. Bertha was the daughter of the late Charlie P. Knight, Jr. and Marjorie S. Locklear-Knight. She was educated in the Waterbury, CT., public school system. Bertha was employed at Stanley Works where she retired.
Bertha is survived by her daughter Danell “Moochie” Jones of New Britain; four grandchildren, Cassandra Jones, Cierra Baker, Tiana Baker, Rayquon Wells all of New Britain, Chanelle Gill of Houston, Texas and two great-grandchildren, Chase & Jaxon Messenger; five sisters, Jacqueline Locklear; Brenda Wyncoop of Waterbury; Hope Knight of Torrington, CT.; Teresa “Goldie” Knight of Gatesville, N.C.; Bernice Langston of Franklin, VA.; three brothers, Sherman L. Knight (Darlene); Lorenzo Knight of Waterbury, CT.; Ulysses Knight (Emma) of Roduco, N.C.; sister in-laws Edith Baker of Plainville, CT., Geraldine Tyson of New Britain, CT., Anna Terry of Beckley West V.A., and one brother in-law Alphonso Baker of Providence , R.I.; goddaughters Tamisha Tyson and Aaliyah Knight of Waterbury, CT., Starlette St. Pierre of New Britain, CT., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bertha was predeceased by her life-long partner Earl A. Baker, Sr. She was predeceased by two sons Robert Williams; Earl A. Baker, Jr. “E.Z.”; two sisters, Linda Knight and Fannie V. Parkmond; two brothers, Robert Williams, Jr. and Kinzell A. Knight.
Homegoing Celebration for Bertha will be held Saturday, April 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain, CT with the Rev. Kenneth K. DuBose, Sr., Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Service of comfort provided by the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT.
