Samuel V. Arena, 71, of New Britain, CT passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General after a long illness. Sam was born in New Britain, CT and was the son of the late Samuel and Frances (Boyko) Arena. He retired from the Town of Newington, Highway Department as a mechanic after 30 years of service. Sam served his country honorably during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Sam enjoyed Nascar, truck shows, his garden, listening to Elvis, and most of all his grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his two daughters Cindy Porrini and her husband Jason,and Christie Rullan and his six grandchildren Tiana, Shaely, and Jason Porrini, Jr., Anthony, Tomas, and Tyler Rullan, all of Bristol, CT. his two sisters, Sandy Arena of Bristol, CT and Donna Barrows of New Britain, CT.
Funeral rites for Sam will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 9 a.m. with the procession departing at 9:30 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 195 South Main St., New Britain, Ct. Burial with full military honors will be in the Veterans section of Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. The American flag will be presented to Mr. Arena’s daughter, Cindy. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
