Obituary for Darrell R. Weed

Darrell R. Weed, 91, of New Britain for 62 years, died Friday, April 14, 2017. Darrell was born in Bristol, CT and was the son of the late Erwin and Edith (Martindale) Weed and moved to Hartford in 1942. There he met his beloved wife of 63 years, Ethel Manship. She predeceased him in 2011. Darrell graduated from Bulkeley High School and attended Hartford Institute of Accounting & Morse Business College. He was a proud veteran of WWII, having served in the Army of Occupation from 1945 to 1946 in France, Germany, England & Belgium as a member of the Military Police. Darrell worked as a Production Control Manager all of his working life – first in Hartford, then ended up his career at Economy Spring in Southington, retiring in 1983. He loved history, and also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. Darrell’s favorite pastime in his later years was going to the casino by bus, and spending his day there. He made many friends there, and would delight them with his sense of humor. Darrell also loved visiting historic houses and reminiscing about the past.
Darrell is survived by his three daughters, Carol Ann Whittaker and her husband Rich of New Britain, CT Janet Boutin and her husband Dennis of Southington, CT and Cynthia Weed of New Britain, CT. He is also survived by his three sons, David Weed and his wife Rose of Kensington, CT Michael Weed of New Britain, CT and Robert Weed and his wife Lucy of Southington, CT, his grandchildren, Eric and Jonathan Boutin, Benjamin Whittaker, Stephen Weed, Emily Deline, Jaqueline Murdock, Kiernan Weed, Jacob and Shawn Weed, his four great-grandchildren, Avery, Makayla, Jocelyn and Sawyer and many nieces, nephews and other family members. Darrell was predeceased by his brother Carl Weed and his sister Emily Weed.
Funeral rites for Mr. Weed will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Burial with full military honors will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. The American flag will be presented to Mr. Weed’s son, David. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A.
