Obituary for James A. Calvo, Sr.

Calvo, James A., Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of James Anthony Calvo, Sr announces his passing after a long, courageous battle with cancer, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the age of 68 years. A man of few words, but great love, Jim had a passion for classic cars and motorcycles, and collected them over his lifetime. He especially loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, taking long rides to nowhere and back again, a hobby he remained dedicated to even during his illness. He appreciated oldies and 1960s doo-wop, and enjoyed time spent with family at picnics and holidays. Before his diagnosis, and for much of his life, Jim was a talented senior mechanic at the family’s three generation business, Calvo’s Auto Body, located in New Britain, CT. For decades, he helped hundreds of customers find, repair, sell, repaint and refinish cars and his skills were widely appreciated. He was later employed by the City of Newington. A brave, humble and patriotic man, Jim enlisted in the Army and fought in the Vietnam War.

“Jim” will be lovingly remembered by his large and caring family, including his son James Calvo Jr. and wife Donna of New Britain, CT daughter Kerrie-Lynn (Calvo) Rule of New Britain, CT his brother Sam Calvo and wife Jennie of Berlin, CT and his three sisters, Susan Nesklada of Berlin, CT Janice Schuman and her husband Jeff of Rocky Hill, CT and Marie Belanger of Southington, CT. Jim will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Dylan, Brandon, Marlena, and Hollis, all from New Britain, CT along with many nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Collins) Calvo, his parents Yohn Calvo and Rose (Jenkins) Calvo, and his beloved grandson “Baby Jimmy.”
