Elsie Iona Forde, 89 of New Britain, CT died Friday, June 30, 2017, at home. Elsie was born in St. Andrew, Barbados and was the daughter of the late Gouldbourn and Gwendolyn (Goodman) Ashby. In 1993, Elsie retired from Stanley Works tool company after twenty-six years of distinguished service as a press operator. She was also an active member of the New Britain Social Club for forty years.
Elsie is survived by her two beloved sons Orlik and Kenrick Forde both of New Britain, CT her brother, Chesterfield Goodman and his wife Oriray of Barbados; three grandchildren McCartney of Atlanta, GA, Janique, of Houston, TX and Sonsyria of New Britain, CT, seven great-grandchildren; special nieces Aldean Braithwaite, Jacqueline Brathwaite, Sandra Forde, Vanessa D. Wallace, as well as a host of nieces, cousins and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Clarence Forde. Elsie leaves her family a legacy of kindness, hard work, selflessness as well as great respect for herself and others.
Homegoing Celebration for Elsie will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Apostolic Church, 249 Stanley St., New Britain, CT with the Bishop Dale I. Shaw, Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT.
