Obituary for Claudia M. Hughley

Claudia M. Hughley
On Monday, July 31, 2017, Claudia M. (Sinclair) Hughley, 77, of Murrells Inlet, S.C. was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. Claudia passed away peacefully at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, S.C. She was the wife of the late Herman Hughley. Claudia was born on August 26, 1939 in Notasulga, Alabama. She was the second eldest of seven children born to the late Algie Sinclair and Elizabeth (Moss) Sinclair. Claudia relocated to Waterbury, CT in 1956 and graduated from Wilby High School. She worked for Webster Savings Bank for fifteen plus years in various capacities with increased responsibilities at each level of management within the organization. She retired from Webster / North America Bank in 2005. During the following years she became a full time 24/7 caregiver for her mother (Elizabeth Sinclair) until her death in 2010. Claudia had a strong faith in God and church. She joined Zion Baptist Church and was an active member for many years. Claudia served on the Usher Board, Pastor Aid Society, Missionary Society and Mission Impossible. Her dedication to her church and her church activities continued tirelessly until caregiver duties at home dictated otherwise. Claudia’s joy came not only from church activities; she was also an avid gardener. She demonstrated year after year her “green thumb!”. Claudia shared her joy with members of the church and community. She was as strong in family values as she was in serving her church and church activities. Claudia held strong family values and traditions insuring that family holiday feasts were maintained.

Claudia is survived by her son, Alvin Hughley of Torrington, Ct.; Three brothers: James (Jeanette) Sinclair of Waterbury, CT; John (Brenda) Sinclair of Murrells Inlet, SC; Allen O. Sinclair of Waterbury, CT; One sister; Mary Mindingall of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; a granddaughter, Zeneshe Douglas of West Hartford, Ct; two great grandchildren, a host of aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Claudia was predeceased by her two brothers Roy T. Sinclair and Rev. Booker T. Sinclair.
Special thanks to caregivers Mrs. Bennett; of Waterbury, Ct; Ms. Pam MacEveen of South Carolina and Ms. Sarah Rutledge of South Carolina.
Homegoing Celebration for Claudia will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St., Waterbury, CT. with the Rev. Calbert Brantley, Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Rd., Waterbury, CT.
