Obituary for Albert J. Cliff, Jr.

Albert J. Cliff, Jr.
Albert Jefferson “Uncle Al” Cliff, Jr., 87, of New Britain, CT died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Apple Rehab, Plainville, CT. Al was born and lived in New Britain, CT and was the son of the late Albert J. and Frances C. (Sullivan) Cliff. Albert attended New Britain schools and served honorably during the Korean War with the US Army, 169 Inf. 43rd Div. He received the Army of Occupation Medal for his tour in Germany. Al was purchasing manager at Skinner Valve Honeywell for 17 ½ years, retiring in 1980. He was a life member of the New Britain 957 Benevolent Order of Elks where he served on various charitable and entertainment committees, including serving as State Americanism chairperson. He received many awards, including Elk of the Year, Irishman and Frenchman of the year. He was also an active member of the Spartans Veterans AC; American Legion Berlin; and V.F.W. Post 511 and the Eagles. He had served as a board member to the New Britain Boys & Girls Club. He volunteered his time with children’s events, such as Camp Shady, Elk’s National Basketball Shoot and Soccer Shoot but the Special Olympics was tops in his heart. He did so much to touch the lives of so many. He was very sociable and had many friends but he could always be seen with his good friends Roger Hebert, Dick Lang, Jack Prescott, Tommy Marrone and Donald Rooney at the B.P.O.E Conventions. Al was an avid Yankee and UCONN Husky Women’s basketball team fan. Albert was very proud of his military service to his country and community and was known for his love of Golf, Bowling and crossword puzzles but first and foremost, the love of his life was his family and friends. The Cliff family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to his friend, Andy Bisi, the staff of Apple Rehab, Plainville and Masonic Hospice Care; Debbie Carroll, CCI and most of all, MaryAnn Augostini and the staff of School II Apts for their compassionate care they have shown Albert over the years.

Al is survived by his beloved sister, Helen K. LaBarre of New Britain; his nieces and nephews, Geraldine (Cliff) and Peter DeRita, Sr., Marylou (Cliff) and Patrick Milardo, both of Venice, FL; Robert J LaBarre and Holly Klein of Enfield, CT; Doreen (LaBarre) and Hari Balimidi of Cheshire, CT; Toni (LaBarre) Nowak of Cromwell, CT; Kelly (LaBarre) and Albert Viera of East Hampton, CT and Lisa LaBarre of New Britain, CT, and several great nieces and nephews, and great grand nephews. Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his beloved brother, William C. and sister-in-law Adeline Cliff, and recently his cousin, Kathleen (Cliff) Beauchene.
