William “New York” Cobb, 94, of New Britain, CT entered into eternal rest Sunday, August 27, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. William was born on June 26, 1923 in Middlesex, North Carolina and was the son of the late James and Lula (Hall) Cobb. He joined the United States Navy and served his country honorably from September 15, 1943 – December 28, 1945. William was a World War II Veteran who received a Purple Heart for his bravery and service. He worked as a supervisor at US Laminating Plant in Patchogue, NY for twenty years.
William is survived by his three daughters June Marie Cobb and Jackie (Cobb) Miller-Black of New Britain, CT, Wanrese Cobb of Raleigh, North Carolina, his two step-daughters Lillian and Jennifer Scott of Tampa, FL; his grandchildren Richard L. Miller, Evelyn R. Black, Dwayne and Jamal Crowder and Charles Means, one great grandchild Elijah Black and long-time friend Katherine Hill. William was predeceased by his wife Gertrude (Dawson) Cobb, his son Charles W. Sandford, his daughter Naomi Cobb and his siblings.
Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Cobb will be held Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. with the Rev. Walter Simmons, Pastor, presiding. Burial with full military honors rendered by the United States Navy will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. The American flag will be presented to Mr. Cobb’s daughter, Jackie. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A.
