Obituary for Florence R. Corr

Florence (Varasconi) Corr, of Windsor, CT, formerly of New Britain, CT, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 10, 2017, at the age of 90. Florence was born in New Britain to the late James and Maria (Agostinelli) Varasconi. She was predeceased by Harold K. Corr, her beloved husband of 59 years. Florence graduated from New Britain High School. Upon graduation, she worked for 10 years at New Britain Bank and Trust. She then went on to work at New Britain High School for 25 years as a para professional and as secretary in the guidance department. Florence was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love for God and family was evident in all she did. Florence enjoyed camping, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, going on cruises, gardening, and spending countless hours with her grandchildren. Her strong faith and positive attitude touched and influenced the lives of many. Florence had a special quality that drew people to her. She was a daily communicant of St. Jerome Parish, taught religious education, was a member and past president of the Legion of Mary, and served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Florence also belonged to the Council of Catholic Women and volunteered at the Monsignor Bojnowski Manor.
Florence is survived by her son, Thomas J. Corr and his wife Carol of Grand Prairie, TX, her two daughters, Mary Lou Tatum of Naperville, IL, and Catherine Dorau and husband Peter of Manchester, CT, her four grandchildren and their spouses, Rebecca Mayo (Peter), Marisa Wilson (Matt), Bradley Dorau (Sandy), and Kyle Dorau (Jessica), great grandson Evander Wilson, her two sisters, Mary Vilardi and her husband Bill of Kensington, CT, and Jean Frugale and her husband Jim of Colchester, CT, her brother Bruno Varasconi of Bristol, CT, and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Florence was predeceased by three sisters, infant Eugenia, Sue Lipka, and Adele Anselmo, and son-in-law Bud Tatum.
Funeral rites for Florence will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at 9 a.m. with the procession departing at 9:30 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish (formerly known as St. Jerome Church) 1010 Slater Road, New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd), right off exit – one mile down on right. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s name to Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, or to a charity of one’s choice.
