Obituary for Lucy A. Zangari (Melfi)

Lucy Ann (Melfi) Zangari, 90, of New Britain, CT passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones – finally to reunite with her deceased parents and children. Born March 21, 1927 in Stamford, CT, moved to New Britain in 1952.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Angelo Zangari of New Britain CT, and her three sons: Nicholas of Ellington CT, Matthew of East Berlin, CT, and Mark of Barlett, NH. She is also survived by Vito Melfi of Monroe CT (Brother), her ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and numerous family in the Stamford, CT area. She is predeceased by: Matthew Melfi (Father), Margaret Melfi (Romaniello, Mother), Angelo Zangari (Son, 1952-1963), Maryann Zangari (Daughter, 1961-1972), Irene Goldkopf (Melfi) sister. Lucy was a classically trained singer by renowned Professor Fuchs in NYC (who also trained Lilly Pons). Lucy sang at numerous civic events and church functions, among them an event for President Harry Truman’s daughter, where she sang the Star Spangled Banner. She was also well renowned in the Stamford area for her singing abilities. She worked at All State Insurance Company for fifteen years before retiring in 1979, and spent her retirement years traveling with her husband to places like Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, and to visit her grandchildren. Family was of utmost importance to Lucy; she was the typical Italian grandmother, who loved to feed everyone, and made the best Italian dishes. Anyone who knew her was greeted with a smile and cheerful welcome. She joyously kept track of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A week ago, the family celebrated Lucy and Angelo’s 70th wedding anniversary party, with 30+ of her closest family in attendance. She was also a devout Catholic, and loved The Lord whole-heartedly.
