Obituary for Edward Joseph Chanko

Edward Joseph Chanko, 98, resident of New Britain, Connecticut, husband for seventy-one years of the late Agnes Doroski Chanko, died a natural and peaceful death Monday, October 9, 2017. Born on September 11, 1919 in New Britain, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Joseph and Emilia (Sochon) Chanko.

“Eddy” served in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist’s mate in 1942 in the Asiatic-Pacific until 1945. He retired from the Fafnir Bearing Company and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He was known by many as the kind and soft spoken gentle spirit who did for others. Eddy was a great blessing to all who knew him.

Edward is survived by his sister, Helen Rigler of Lewes, Delaware and ten nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by a brother Tony Chanko, two sisters, Lucy Luebeck and Anne Schoenewolff.

A Celebration of Mr. Chanko’s life will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Road, New Britain, CT. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt Street, New Britain, CT. The American Flag will be presented to Mr. Chanko’s niece Janet. There are no calling hours. The Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT has charge of arrangements.
