Obituary for Edith P. Baker

Edith P. Baker, 81, of Plainville, CT departed life Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Cobalt Lodge Healthcare Center in Cobalt, CT Edith was born January 20, 1936 in Atmore, AL and was the daughter of the late Jimmie and Rosa (Lamar) Pierce. She graduated from Washington High School in Pensacola, FL. Sis Baker was the Treasure of the Deaconess board for many years. Edith was also on the Usher Board. She worked for over fifteen years at the nurse registrar in West Hartford, CT and worked a Mount Sinai for many years and later went back to school to become a Chief Certified Technician in Labor and Delivery at St. Francis Hospital where she later retired.
Edith is survived by her daughter – Starlette Hunter of Colchester and her son -Andre Baker of Plainville, CT, her three sisters - Vivian West of Detroit, MI, Dorothy P. Bradley Concord, CA and Joyce Pierce of Oakland, CA, her ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, her two sisters-in-law Anna Terry of Beckley, West Virginia, Geraldine Tyson of New Britain, CT, and her brother-in-law Alphonse Baker of Providence, R.I. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and great nieces, great nephews. Edith was predeceased by her husband – Chester (Bo) Baker, her two brothers Jimmy and Frederick Pierce and her grandson Ivan Flanders. The Family would like to thank the Cobalt Lodge and UCONN Health Care Center for their kindness shown to Edith.
Homegoing Celebration for Edith will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain, CT with the Rev. Jacqueline King, Pastor, presiding. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the Spottswood A.M.E.
