Anna M. (Phy) Chaika, 82, of New Britain, CT died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General. Anna was born on August 29, 1935 in Abbington, PA and was the daughter of the late Blanchard and Helen (Styles) Phy. She worked for twenty years as an Assistant Manager at Central CT State University Memorial Hall and Friendly’s for ten years. Anna served her country honorably in the United States Army Women’s Core. She was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, New Britain.
Anna is survived by her four sons – Michael Chaika and his wife Elaine of Bowling Green, FL, James Chaika and his wife Sharon of New Hartford, CT, Ronald Chaika and his wife Janet of New Britain, CT, Charles Chaika and his partner Suzanne Schulman of West Hartford, CT, her five grandchildren - Ronald, Jr., Angeline, Jennifer, Melissa and C-Jay, her six great grandchildren - Isaac, Ayden, Riley, Jeremy, Caleb, Talia and one on the way into this world Jameson, her Aunt Katherine Czajka of New Britain, CT, her sister-in-law Agnes Czajka of East Hartford, CT, her special friend Margaret Young of West Hartford, CT as well as several cousins. Anna was predeceased by her husband Michael Chaika and her son Donald Chaika.
A Celebration of Anna’s life will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 1 p.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Full military honors rendered by the United States Army will be accorded for Mrs. Chaika Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The American flag will be presented to Mrs. Chaika’s son, Ronald. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Thursday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west – exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
