Phyllis (Groman) Niewinski, 96, of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General. Phyllis was born in New Britain, CT and was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Pearl (McKinstry) Groman. She was the wife of seventy years to the late Lawrence Niewinski who passed away December 14, 2011. Phyllis attended local schools and graduated from New Britain High School. She retired from Fafnir Bearing after working there for thirty years. Phyllis was a member of Holy Cross Church and attended regularly. Some of her favorite hobbies were playing bingo with friends and traveling the world with her husband. Phyllis enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and great grandson.
Phyllis is survived by a loving daughter Carol DeSena of New Britain, CT, a son Peter Niewinski and his wife Lana of Boca Raton, FL, three grandsons Ralph and Paul DeSena of New Britain, CT and Michael Niewinski, one granddaughter Michelle Niewinski both of Boca Raton, FL, one great grandson Cameron DeSena of New Britain, CT as well as several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her two brothers Robert and William Groman. She was also accompanied by two great grand dogs Bella and Daisy. The family would like to thank the Bel-Air Manor staff of Newington, CT for all their wonderful and loving care they gave her during the three and a half years that Phyllis spent there.
Funeral rites for Phyllis will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9:00 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) – right off exit – one mile down on right.
