Leiola (Owens) Brathwaite, 75, of Waterbury, CT. Leiola was called home peacefully Friday, June 8, 2018 at Saint Mary’s Hospital surrounded by family. Leiola was born on March 5, 1943 in Troy, Alabama and was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Alline (Brockton) Owens. She worked for many years at Uniroyal Mfg. Leiola was a member of Way of The Cross Church in Waterbury, CT.

Leiola leaves behind her son Richard (Evangelist Barbara) Owens of Rocky Hill, CT, Her siblings Jessie Owens and Tyrone (Linda) Owens of Waterbury, CT, Jeanette Thomas of New Britain, CT, Ronald (Patricia) Owens of Texas, Delores (Arden) Owens-Coggins of Winston-Salem, N.C., her granddaughters Larisha and Latoya Thompson of Waterbury, CT, great-grandchildren Jamiah Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Ny’zair Thompson of Waterbury, CT. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leiola was predeceased by her brother James Robert Owens.

Homegoing Celebration service will be held Friday June 15, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl Street, Waterbury, CT. Calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be private. Repass will be at Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
