Carmelo Tambone, 88, of Berlin, CT widow of Rita (Tambutto) Tambone who passed May 30, 2013, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Mid State Medical Center, Meriden, CT with his son Michael by his side. Carmelo was born February 27, 1930 in Paternò, Province Di Catania, Sicily, Italy and was the son of the late Salvatore and Rosaria (Virgillito) Tambone. He came to the United States in 1959 and resided in New Britain, CT and then moved to Berlin, CT in 2001 and then resided in Meriden Center, Meriden, CT for the last year. Carmelo was a owner/barber for fifty years at Sunvale Barber Shop. He enjoyed soccer and working in his garden and yard. Carmelo also enjoyed cooking for family especially Sunday dinners. He adored speaking with his sister in Sicily, Italy. Carmelo was a member of St. Ann Church, New Britain, He was a loving, caring father who always put his family first.
Carmelo is survived by his son Michael Tambone of Berlin, CT, his sister Barbara Tambone of Paternò, Sicily, Italy as well as several nieces, nephews and friends in Italy and CT as well as his close friend Dr. Steven Scholand and family, whom Carmelo thought of as family. Carmelo was predeceased by his sister Rosa Tambone. The Tambone family extends a special note of thanks to the entire staff at Meriden Center for their exceptional care given to Carmelo for the last year, especially #200 Wing nurses and doctors at Mid State Medical Center ICU and Pavillion E, and to Chaplain Doreen. POP, you were the best Father a son could have, rest in peace with Mom – Love, Michael.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 101 North St., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St., New Britain, CT. There are no calling hours. Service of Comfort and Compassion provided by the Paul A.
