Obituary for Sallie F. Dickerson (Wilson)

Sallie Faye King Dickerson, 77, of New Britain, CT daughter of the late Cleveland, Sr. and Lendie (Marrow) Wilson, passed away peacefully Monday October 8, 2018 in Newington CT. Sallie was born in Pitt County, North Carolina and graduated from South Ayden High School where she was a star basketball player and was offered a full ride scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University. But instead chose to marry her high school sweetheart Edward ‘AC’ King and move to Connecticut where they raised together three children. While in Danbury, Sallie was employed with the school system as a bus driver. She was also employed by Davis and Geck, H.J. Lubus Accounting, Action Day Care Center, General Electric and finally Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. Sallie was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church where she served as a Deaconess, Sr. Usher, Choir member, Quarterly Conference Secretary, Church Clerk, Class Leader, and Lay Council Member. After many years she later found love again, married Junius Dickerson and moved to Hurt, Virginia. There she worshipped and continued to serve at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Jones. Sallie loved to sing, cook, and sew. Sallie loved basketball and was very competitive. She possessed the gift of hospitality and never met a stranger. Sallie loved God and she loved people, especially the children.
In addition to her husband, Sallie is survived by her son Dennis E. Ford of Danbury, CT; daughters Debra M. King Harrison of Cromwell, CT and Jacqueline King of New Britain, CT. Stepdaughters Shundelia Gregory of Alta Vista, VA and Felecia Dickerson of Hurt, VA, grandchildren, great grandchildren, god children and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing Celebration for Sallie will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain, CT with the Rev. Jacqueline King, Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Service of Comfort and Compassion provided by the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT.
