William E. Groot, 64, of Hamden, CT died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at home. Bill was born in Manchester, CT and was the son of the late Adrian Groot, Jr. and Mildred (Moravek) Perunko. He lived in Connecticut for most of his life and a short time in Florida. William had a teaching certificate, coached and played soccer and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a Quadruple ASE Master Technician and owned Groot’s Automotive in Manchester, CT and won multiple awards for automotive body repair. Bill worked at PepBoys and taught automotive at Eli Whitney Technical School.
William is survived by his son Evan Groot and his wife Kristi of Torrington, CT, his five sisters Karen Stewart and her husband Gregory of Bolton, CT, Elizabeth Lynch of Lebanon, CT, Wendy Groot of Windham, CT, Cynthia Hutchins and her husband Reginald of Coventry, CT and Deborah Blakeley and her husband Dennis of Coventry, CT, the family of Adrian Groot, III, his grandchild Hunter Groot and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. William was predeceased by his son Kyle Groot and his brother Adrian Groot, III.
Funeral rites for Bill will be held Monday, November 12, 2018 at 12 p.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 East or West, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right. Cremation will follow the funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Eli Whitney Technical School, 100 Fairview Ave., Hamden, CT. 06514.
