Obituary for Florencio Ortiz

Florencio Ortiz, 86, of New Britain, CT died Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT @ New Britain General. Florencio was born in Maunabo, Puerto Rico and was the son of the late Jose Ortiz and Eusebia (Amaro) Burgos. He worked as a machinist for many years at Nickson Industries. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Florencio loved and was an avid fan of the New York Mets and was a resident of New Britain for over sixty years.
Florencio is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-three years – Margarita (Camacho) Ortiz of New Britain, CT, his two daughters Emma J. Ortiz and Melisa Ortiz, his four sons Jorge Ortiz, Florencio Ortiz, Jr, all of New Britain, CT, Miguel Ortiz of New London, CT and Edwin Ortiz of Jacksonville FL, his grandchildren Anthony Ortiz, Cristian J Ortiz, Yaralis Rivera, Justin Ortiz, Miguel Taino Ortiz and Ismael Ortiz all of New Britain, CT, Alexis Ayala, Kristalyn Ortiz and Edwin Ortiz, Jr., his two sisters Irma Ortiz of Puerto Rico and Hilda Ortiz of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral rites for Florencio will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 544 Main St., New Britain, CT. Burial with full military honors rendered by the United States Army will be in the Veterans Spousal Section of Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. The American flag will be presented to Florencio’s wife, Margarita. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west – exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
