Obituary for Bernard Albert Gervais

Bernard Albert Gervais, 92 of Middletown, CT formerly of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Apple Rehab, Cromwell, CT. Bernard was the beloved husband of the late Florine M. Michaud Gervais. He was born in Caribou, Maine on May 23, 1926 to the late Joseph and Albertine (Ouellette) Gervais. He leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, Kathleen Sales of New Britain, CT; Helen Evans of Farmington, CT; Joyce Stanton of Simsbury, CT; Claudette Faucher and her husband Valmore of Port St. Lucie, FL; and Frances Culver and her husband Paul of Kensington, CT. Bernard also leaves many loving nieces and nephews especially his niece and Goddaughter Deborah J. Murray of Middletown, CT who cared for him for the past several years. Bernard was a long time resident of New Britain, CT and was employed by Connecticut Light & Power in Newington, CT before retiring after 35 years of service. Bernard was a World War II Veteran in the United States Army. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son Keith B. Gervais, his sister, Anita P. Murray, his brothers, Norman, Ralph and Donald Gervais. Bernard loved hunting in Maine with his uncles, brothers and in-laws. In his younger days, he and his wife loved taking trips to see her family in Maine and camping at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, CT. In the past several years, he liked sitting around the pool at his niece Deborah’s house in the summer and cooking in the kitchen at Deb’s house with one of his favorite people whom he loved dearly, Jackie Noel.

A Celebration of Mr. Gervais Life will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Military Honors accorded by the United States Army for Mr. Gervais will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. The American Flag will be presented to Bernard’s nephew, Gregory Faucher. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Thursday from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Agatha Lower Cemetery, St. Agatha Maine besides his wife Florine and son Keith, at the convenience of the family.
