Obituary for Rose M. Ingari

Rose M. Ingari
Rose (Scollo) Ingari, 81, of Middletown, died peacefully after a long illness on Thursday April 28, 2011 with family by her side. Rose was born in New Britain, Ct. on October 16, 1929 to Carmelo and Antoinette (Cavallaro) Scollo. For fifty-seven years she was the beloved wife of Frank Ingari Sr. who predeceased her in 2004. She was also predeceased by her sister Jennie Grasso, her brother, Sam Scollo, her sister-in-law Susan Scollo and her niece Trudy Scollo.

Rose is survived by her five children, Susan Ingari Ferris, Sandra Ingari and her partner Louise Young, all of Middletown, Ct., Janet McMullin and her husband Gregg of Poquoson, Virginia, Frank Ingari Jr. of Lincoln, Massachusetts and Robert Ingari and his partner, Pierre Morrison of Sherbrooke, Canada. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Morgan and Conor Ingari and Scott, Sam and Erin McMullin. Also surviving, are her brother Lucio Scollo of Newington, Ct. her nephew Carmen Scollo of Middlefield, Ct. a special cousin and friend Lucy Cowperthwaite of Newington, Ct. and many loving nieces and nephews. Rose also leaves her new “best friend” and caregiver, Roseanne Tine of Middletown, Ct. who cared for her with love, respect and humor. The family is very grateful that we found this angel for mom in her last months.

Rose was an extraordinarily talented woman with exceptional skills as a seamstress and craftsperson. As a teenager, she designed and created her own clothing, and later went on to create a variety of “masterpieces” for her children and grandchildren. Her custom made Halloween costumes were truly works of art, made with love and creativity. Wallets, purses, curtains, tablecloths and slipcovers would be made with a simple request and would be better made than anything store bought. She was everyone’s favorite seamstress with family and friends coming from far and near to have their pants hemmed or dresses altered. She was also excellent with a crochet hook or knitting needle. Her home was a showplace for her various creations; most recently she took great pride in her crocheted Southern Belle dolls. Her attention to detail and perfectionism with her projects was awe-inspiring. She truly had “golden hands”, and was most comfortable in front of her sewing machine. A homemaker extraordinaire, she could fix anything, remove any stain, and kept the cleanest, most organized house on the planet.

Rose was a loyal, reliable friend to many throughout her life and spent many good years with her best friends Bea, Marion and Pat. She continued to gather a younger generation of friends in her later years and was affectionately known as “Mama Rose” by her children’s friends. She was a hip, classy lady with a sharp mind that made her fit right in with the younger generation.

Rose and her husband Frank really knew how to “cut a rug” and their dancing was a joy to behold at family functions where they’d be the #1 dancers on the floor. She also enjoyed writing about family history in memoirs and stories, and has left her family the legacy of two precious manuscripts chronicling her Sicilian immigrant experience in America. A woman of many talents and skills with a generous heart for family and friends she will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral rites for Rose will be held Monday May 2, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker / Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, Ct. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Road, New Britain, Ct. Committal service and final resting place will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 1309 Stanley Street, New Britain, Ct. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker / Farmingdale Funeral Home, Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home: I-84 East or West – exit 37 (Fienemann Road) – right off exit – one mile down on right.
