On Sunday, March 13, 2016 Reverend William Sherman Eatmon, Jr, 88, of New Britain, CT., transitioned this life to his heavenly home surrounded by his devoted family. Rev. Eatmon was born in Micro, North Carolina on May 28, 1927 to William Sherman Eatmon, Sr. and Roxanne (Whitfield) Eatmon. A proud scholar and valediction of Richard B Harrison High School class of 1946. He headed north at an early age seeking opportunities. Migrating to New Britain he joined Union A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as an usher, sang in the choir and began teaching Sunday school. Rev. Eatmon loved baseball and played on the Union A.M.E. Zion church league where he was a pitcher and first baseman. He enjoyed tennis and was an avid vocalist, fisherman and boxing fan.
He began his career at Fafnir Bearing Company where he was a divisional supervisor and employed for forty-five years at the New Britain and Newington plant. After his retirement he worked with Meth Path Lab as a courier for ten years. This was career change for him and he often spoke of how he enjoyed meeting people every day and talking with them. He embraced his community and served as a commissioner of HRA of New Britain, was a lifelong member of the New Britain Chapter of the NAACP and a committed member of the U.A.W.133. Rev. Eatmon enjoyed public speaking and teaching so continuing as a Sunday school leader came quite naturally. His love of God has always been steadfast and unmovable. He received the call to the ministry and graduation from Hartford seminary in 1993. After graduation he began as an associate pastor at Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church and continued as servant of the lord all of the day of his life.
