Anita (Johanns) Emmons 79, of Plainville, CT., passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at home with her devoted family by her side. Anita was predeceased by her husband of forty-seven years, Ronald A. Emmons Sr. Anita was born in New Britain on August 31, 1936; the daughter of the late Mary (Scalora) Johanns and Alexander Johanns. Anita retired from the UCONN Health Center after twenty-seven years of proud service as a Purchasing Agent for the hospital.
Dedicated to her community she was a member of the following organizations: Junior Woman’s Club, Citizens for Property Owners (Plainville) and CT Service Employees & Retirees (CSEA). She was an avid reader and continued to expand her interests including wood working, ceramics, photography, and bowling throughout her life. At her leisure she enjoyed tending to her yard, taking in a good NASCAR race, going to craft shows and traveling with her sisters.
Anita was a very devoted and self-sacrificing mom to her children and is survived by her Daughters, Laurie Sawin and her husband Darryl of Otis, MA, Candace Emmons of Kalispell, MT, Sherie Zipadelli and her husband William of Kensington, her son Ronald Emmons and Penny Socha of Southington. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Mercedes and Kyle Sawin, Nicholas and Alyssa Zipadelli, Sarah, Joshua, Tabitha, Charity, Hannah and David Kriger, Emily and Connor Socha and three great grandchildren, Mercedes, Macy and Braxton. Anita is survived by her four sisters, Dorothy Pulito of Southington, Joanne Merrill of East Haddam, Sandra Costanzo and her husband Anthony of Southington, Marion Zalner and her husband Robert of Harpers Ferry, West VA., with whom she had very close relationships with through-out her life.
Calling hours are from 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave, New Britain, CT. Directions to funeral home - I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit - one mile down on right. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home. Committal service and final resting place will be in Maple Cemetery, 1165 Worthington Ridge, Berlin, CT.
