Irene Santana, 98, of New Britain, CT. died Monday, November 14, 2016 at Cassena Care @ New Britain. Irene was born in San German, Puerto Rico and was the daughter of the late Rafael and Carmen (Gregory) Santana. She lived most of her life in New Britain, CT. Irene was an avid seamstress and enjoyed cooking, baking and needlepoint. Her beautiful voice soothed four generations of babies.
Irene is survived by her four daughters Aurea Vazquez her husband Luis of Brandon, FL., Ladys Mari and her husband Americo of New Britain, CT., Essie Ducharme and her husband Frank of Granby, CT., and Nina Peterson and her husband Rod of North Carolina her two sons Jimmy Roche of Massachusetts and George Roche of New Britain, CT., her two sisters Haydee Carrasquillo of FL., and Evelyn Gregory of San German, P.R., her twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by her three brothers Jorge Santana, Miguel Gregory, and William Santana and her two sisters Olga Santana and Dinora Santana. *Special Thanks to the nurses, CNA's and staff of Cassena House (former Andrew House), who treated Irene like family.
Funeral rites for Irene will be held Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Thursday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
