Obituary for Rose Marie Malec

Rose Marie Malec, 88 of New Britain, CT died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Jerome Home, New Britain. Rose Marie was born in Hastings-on-Hudson, Westchester County, NY. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Kalish) Gondek. After completing high school, Rose graduated from the American Institute of Banking in New York and worked in the banking industry before starting her family. Later Rose worked for the Visiting Nurses Association of New Britain and retired from St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center as a Collector. She was a member of the Holy Cross Ladies Guild, St. Jerome Church, New Britain and the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington, CT.

Rose is survived by her beloved children, her daughter Patricia Jahn and her husband Larry of Kensington, her two sons, Richard Malec and Raymond Malec and his wife Marsha of Newington; her two grandchildren Jonathan Jahn and Rachel Malec; several nieces, nephews, her former husband Ludwig Malec and his wife Kasimira. She also leaves many dear friends. Rose's greatest joy in life were her loving children and grandchildren. Rose Marie was predeceased by her brother John Gondek.

A cause closest to Rose's heart was to work tirelessly for those individuals who faced mental health challenges, advocating for funding to provide additional community health services.

The Malec family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Jerome Home for the compassionate and loving care they provided for Rose Marie.

Memorial donations may be made in Rose Marie's memory to the Recreation Department at Jerome Home, 975 Corbin Avenue, New Britain, CT 06052 or Gilead Community Services, P. O. Box 1000, 222 Main Street Ext., Middletown, CT 06457.

Funeral rites for Rose Marie will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9:00 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington, CT. Committal service and final resting place will be in St. Mary Cemetery, 1141 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Wednesday from 4pm - 7pm. Directions to funeral home - I-84 East or West, Exit 37 (Fienemann Road), right off exit - one mile down on right.
