Obituary for Irene Niewinski (Kalisz)

Irene  Niewinski (Kalisz)
Irene (Kalisz) Niewinski, 89, of New Britain, CT, died peacefully Sunday, September 3, 2017, in Newington, CT. wife of the late John J. Niewinski, who died June 25, 2017; Irene was born in New Britain, CT and was the daughter of the late Kazimier and Stephania (Kisluk) Kalisz. She attended local schools and retired from the State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Family Services. Irene was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church and the Holy Cross Church Ladies Guild, New Britain, CT. She was an active member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and participated in many U.S. Marine Corp. events with her husband John. Irene was awarded an honorary Purple Heart from the U.S. Marine Corps. Irene and John were married 68 years. They enjoyed Polish music, polka dancing and would travel to wherever the Polka Bands were playing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who was devoted to caring for her family and enjoyed spending quality time with them.
Irene is survived by her three daughters Laura Niewinski and June Anderson of New Britain, CT and Arlene Polzun and her husband Steven of Newington, CT, her three grandchildren -Thomas John, Shelby, and Avalon, her two great grandchildren - Farrah and Maya, several nieces and nephews and her sister Maryann Forgione and her husband Joseph of New Britain, CT. In addition to her husband, John, Irene was predeceased by her brother Lucian Kalisz, three sisters, Claire Granat, Helen Leonard and Sophie Becker.
Funeral rites for Irene will be held Friday September 8, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT. Committal service and final resting place will in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home Thursday from 4pm to 7pm. Directions to Funeral Home – I-84 east or west, exit 37 (Fienemann Rd), right off exit – one mile down on right.
