Gesilda “Gina” Cane passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 98 years old. She was born on October 7, 1919 in Palmoli, a commune in Italy and was the daughter of the late Nicola and Claronda (Dininni) Pagano. She moved to New Britain, CT when she was in her 30’s and she worked at Newington Children’s Hospital for twenty-seven years as a nursing assistant. Gina was loved by many people outside of her family, she was the grandmother that others wish they had.
Gina is survived by her son Antonino Cane and his wife Anna of Bradenton, FL. She is also survived by the many generations she has left behind, her granddaughter and her husband, Cristina and Steven Carman of New Britain, CT, her grandson and his wife Tony and Johanna Cane all of New Britain, CT, as well as her great-grandchildren, Emily, Samantha, and Alex Carman, and Joey Cane. Gina was predeceased by her husband, Angelo Cane, and her son Nino Cane, her two sisters Evelina and Loreta Pagano and brother, Dino Pano,
Funeral rites for Gesilda will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, CT., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 195 South Main St., New Britain, CT. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Garden Mausoleum, St. Mary Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St., New Britain, CT. Relatives and friends may call at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Directions to funeral home – I-84 east or west exit 37 (Fienemann Rd) right off exit – one mile down on right.
