Robert Armand Drieu, 85, of Madeira Beach, FL and Newington, CT passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Robert was born in Hartford, CT May 28, 1933 and was the son of the late Armand and Anne (Lembo) Drieu. He graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1952 and then served his country honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Salem during the Korean War. Robert graduated from the University of Hartford with a degree in Business Administration. He spent his career in the insurance industry and opened the Drieu Insurance Agency in Newington in 1975. Robert served on several town committees while a resident of Newington. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Elks Clubs.
Robert is survived by his five children: his son Philip Lee Drieu and his wife Pauline, his daughter Susan Atkins and her husband Douglas, his son James Drieu and his wife Gabriela, his son Christopher Drieu and his daughter Jennifer Drieu and her husband John Stone. Robert also leaves five grandchildren: Lauren, Lindsey and Christopher Atkins, Rhianna and Luna Drieu. Robert was predeceased by his loving wife Miriam Eleanor Drieu and brother Alfred Louis Drieu.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 124 Maple Hill Ave., Newington, CT. Burial with full military honors accorded by the United States Navy will be in West Meadow Cemetery, 679 Willard Ave., Newington, CT. The American flag will be presented to Mr. Drieu’s son, Philip.
