Phinizy Carter, 88, of New Britain, CT died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at UCONN Health Center, Farmington. Phinizy was born in Columbia County, GA and was the son of the late Joe and Malinda (Garrett) Carter. He worked as a steel mill worker at Stanley Works for twenty years and was a crossing guard for ten years. Phinizy was a member of St. James Mens Choir and Ionic Lodge #7, New Britain and affiliated with the St. James Deacon Board.
Phinizy is survived by his three daughters Barbara Carter, Van Carter, Diane Carter McCoy, son in law Herbert McCoy and two sons Wallace Gibson and Jerry Carter his sister Daisy Carter-Barnwell, his four grandchildren, Justice Carter, Tianna Carter, Rodney McCoy and Yolanda Harris-White and eight great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Phinizy was predeceased by his wife Lula Belle Carter and his two sisters and eight brothers.
Homegoing Celebration for Phinizy will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 45 Daly Ave., New Britain, CT with the Rev. John W. Walker, Pastor, presiding. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley St., New Britain, CT.
